95:1 Come! Let’s sing for joy to the Lord!

Let’s shout out praises to our protector who delivers us! ² 

95:2 Let’s enter his presence ³  with thanksgiving!

Let’s shout out to him in celebration! ⁴

Mazmur 98:1-4

A psalm.

98:1 Sing to the Lord a new song, ⁹ 

for he performs ¹⁰  amazing deeds!

His right hand and his mighty arm

accomplish deliverance. ¹¹ 

98:2 The Lord demonstrates his power to deliver; ¹² 

in the sight of the nations he reveals his justice.

98:3 He remains loyal and faithful to the family of Israel. ¹³ 

All the ends of the earth see our God deliver us. ¹⁴ 

98:4 Shout out praises to the Lord, all the earth!

Break out in a joyful shout and sing!

Maleakhi 3:16

3:16 Then those who respected ¹⁵  the Lord spoke to one another, and the Lord took notice. ¹⁶  A scroll ¹⁷  was prepared before him in which were recorded the names of those who respected the Lord and honored his name.

[95:1]  ¹ sn Psalm 95. The psalmist summons Israel to praise God as the creator of the world and the nation’s protector, but he also reminds the people not to rebel against God.

[96:1]  ⁵ sn Psalm 96. The psalmist summons everyone to praise the Lord, the sovereign creator of the world who preserves and promotes justice in the earth.

[98:1]  ¹⁰ tn The perfect verbal forms in vv. 1-3 are understood here as describing characteristic divine activities. Another option is to translate them as present perfects, “has performed…has accomplished deliverance, etc.” referring to completed actions that have continuing results.

[98:1]  ¹¹ tn Heb “his right hand delivers for him and his holy arm.” The right hand and arm symbolize his power as a warrior-king (see Isa 52:10). His arm is “holy” in the sense that it is in a category of its own; God’s power is incomparable.

[98:2]  ¹² tn Heb “makes known his deliverance.”

[98:3]  ¹³ tn Heb “he remembers his loyal love and his faithfulness to the house of Israel.”

[98:3]  ¹⁴ tn Heb “the deliverance of our God,” with “God” being a subjective genitive (= God delivers).

[3:16]  ¹⁷ sn The scroll mentioned here is a “memory book” (סֵפֶר זִכָּרוֹן, sefer zikkaron) in which the Lord keeps an ongoing record of the names of all the redeemed (see Exod 32:32; Isa 4:3; Dan 12:1; Rev 20:12-15).
